BYUABS Lecture/Social, January 26

On January 26 we are beginning the first lecture of our lecture series, “Judaism and Christianity in the Ancient World.” This first lecture will be given by Dr. Lincoln Blumell, Visiting Professor of Ancient Scripture. Dr. Blumell’s lecture will be titled, “Voting about God:  The Emergence of Trinitarian Theology in Fourth-Century Councils and Creeds.”  This is guaranteed to be a fascinating lecture and one that will be of high interest to any studying or interested in early Christianity and the development of Christian theology, specifically on the nature of the Godhead, a relevant topic to Latter-day Saints.

The lecture will be on Wednesday, January 26, 2011, at 4:00 PM in JSB 382 (the seminar room on the south end of the third floor).

We are also planning on providing pizza and drinks to make this a combined lecture/social. We understand that some have class or other obligations at 4:00 PM, but we invite you to come later and enjoy refreshments with us if you are able. Also feel free to pass this announcement along to any friends or colleagues who you believe would be interested in this lecture. We hope to see you there!

BYUABS Opening Social – October 18

The newly founded BYU Association of Biblical Studies will be having its opening social  this Monday, October 18, at 4:00 PM in room 382 of the JSB (the conference room on the 3rd floor).  At the social there will be a brief introduction about our club, our plans for the year, and how you can be involved.  Following this will be a short presentation by BYU professor and LDS religious scholar Jack Welch.  Refreshments/food will be provided afterward (probably pizza!).   If you’re interested in biblical studies, this will be a great opportunity to meet professors and students with similar interests.

BYUABS Opening Social

On October 13, 2010, the BYU Association of Biblical Studies is having an opening social, open to BYU students, faculty, and almuni, in room 362 of the JSB on BYU campus.  .  Come and learn about our organization, what we have planned for the coming year, and how you can be involved!  And yes, there will be food.  We’ve set up a Facebook event page for the opening social as well.

BYU Association of Biblical Studies

The BYU Association of Biblical Studies is a new student organization at Brigham Young University devoted to generating interest in biblical studies as well as promoting a greater understanding of the Hebrew Bible and New Testament, as well as the larger Judeo-Christian world.

We will use this webpage to post updates on events and activities, items of interest, and other announcements.  We are also in the process of including a directory of BYU faculty with expertise relevant to biblical studies (currently under construction), as well as creating a list of online resources relevant to biblical studies (both linked above).
